Pakistan Cricket Team’s spearhead fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has been missing since T20 WC 2022 final. The pacer had sustained a knee injury in the final against England where he took a catch and subsequently didn’t complete his quota of overs. He has become a vital cog in a short span of time for the Men in Green.

Shaheen is assumed to be the next big thing in World Cricket as the speedster has the knack of providing crucial breakthroughs for the team. He missed the crucial home season which was a bumper season for Pakistan as England & New Zealand toured them after a long span of time.

Shaheen Afridi on Injury

Shaheen Afridi was having an interaction with PCB Digital and was asked about his injury phase.

“There were times when I wanted to give up…I was working on only one muscle and it was not improving. Often during the rehabilitation sessions, I used to say to myself this is enough, I cannot do this anymore.

“But then I used to watch my bowling on YouTube and see how well I had done and that motivated me and I told myself to push a little more…It is frustrating for a fast bowler to miss cricket because of an injury,” said Shaheen Afridi.

“It is tough when you miss your home games because of the injury, Before our Test home season, I even missed the seven England T20Is. I was more distressed about missing the Tests, because I like Test cricket more. A bowler is measured on how he performs in Test cricket and I wanted to take wickets against England.” he added.

Crucial Phase For Pakistan

PSL 2023 is set to begin on 13th February, this tournament would be extremely vital for Shaheen Afridi to make a case for himself. Under the regime of Najam Sethi, it would be interesting to see whether Shaheen gets an entry straight away into the national team.

Pakistan are set to name new coaching staff for the Afghanistan T20I series in March. There have been talks going on that PCB would bring in the concept of split captaincy in order to manage the workload of skipper Babar Azam as there are a lot of ICC events aligned in the next couple of years.
