Indian left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat was acknowledged for his outstanding performances in domestic cricket at the BCCI Awards in Hyderabad. Jaydev Unadkat received the Madhavrao Scindia award for being the leading wicket-taker in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy season.

Jaydev Unadkat showcased remarkable form in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy season. The left-arm pacer picked up 67 wickets in 10 matches, achieving a best of 7/56. Ravichandran Ashwin presented the Madhavrao Scindia Award to Unadkat at the Naman Awards ceremony.

I Wanted To Prove To Myself – Jaydev Unadkat

Following the award win, Jaydev Unadkat recalled his determination after being dropped from the Test team in 2010. He expressed his pride in becoming the highest wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy and thanked the BCCI for the recognition.

“When I made my test debut back in 2010, and then got dropped from the team after that series, I was livid with myself. I wanted to prove to myself that I was good enough and the best way to do it is to become the highest wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy. Although it came a decade later, I can now say that I am proud that I did it!” Unadkat wrote.

“At the awards ceremony yesterday, one of India’s finest, Mr. Farookh Engineer said in his award acceptance speech, “Back then, we din’t play for money, it was for the love of the game, and we enjoyed the game immensely.” Of course times have changed and dynamics are different now, but that was my fuel. Passion above everything else, no matter what. Thank you @BCCI for the recognition,” he added.

Unadkat made his Test debut against South Africa in 2010, where he went wicketless in his first match with figures of 26-4-101-0. The pacer made a long-awaited comeback in Bangladesh in 2022. He featured in a two-Test series against the West Indies before being dropped.

The 32-year-old pacer failed to pick wickets in the West Indies in July last year. Overall, he picked up three wickets in four Test matches at an average of 77 and a strike rate of 158. He also represented the Indian national cricket team in four ODIs and eight T20I matches.

Jaydev Unadkat To Represent Sunrisers Hyderabad In IPL 2024

Jaydev Unadkat was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise acquired his services for Rs. 1.6 crore during the IPL 2024 mini-auction. Unadkat has a decent track record in the tournament and will represent SRH in the IPL 2024.

Unadkat has picked up 91 wickets in 94 matches with an economy rate of 8.86. His remarkable season was in 2017 with the Rising Pune Supergiants, where he secured 24 wickets in 12 matches at an impressive economy rate of 7.02, including a couple of five-wicket hauls.

The left pacer represented the Lucknow Super Giants in the last two seasons of the tournament. He struggled to make an impact, featuring in only 5 games in 2022 and 3 games in 2023. He was released along with seven other players just before the last mini-auction.
