Legendary Indian batsman Rahul Dravid in his first press conference as an India Head Coach has said that he wants India T20I captain Rohit Sharma to play all three formats for the team.

Dravid was appointed as the new India coach after the exit of Ravi Shastri following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 where India failed to reach the semi-finals and were eliminated in the Super12 stage. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has also been appointed as permanent captain of India in T20 Internationals after Virat Kohli quit the T20I captaincy.

Workload management is an important aspect of cricket. We see that in football as well. The mental and physical well-being of players will be a priority. We need to do a balancing act, have to work towards having players fit for the big tournaments.”

Rahul Dravid further added:

Workload management is important. Players aren’t machines. We want all our players fresh for the challenges ahead. It’s very simple, we have to monitor every series we play,”

The New Zealand 3-match T20I series will be the first assignment of Rohit the permanent T20I captain and Dravid the permanent Head Coach.

Talking about The Blackcaps, Dravid said that they are “a very, very good side” and have defeated India in big tournaments. He asserted:

New Zealand are a very, very good side, make no mistake about it. You don’t need me to say that. It’s almost become fashionable to call them underdogs but that narrative has changed. They have beaten us in big games but therein lies an opportunity for us.”
