ICC Champions Trophy To Be Played In A Hybrid Model

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is all set to be played in a hybrid model with the matches set to take place across Pakistan and UAE. Pakistan were the original hosts of the competition, but due to the refusal of the Indian government to send the team to the country, a hybrid model was adopted.

The Pakistan Cricket Board and the Board of Control for Cricket in India were involved in a big tussle, which caused a major delay in the announcement of the Champions Trophy schedule.

PCB was hesitant to accept the hybrid model and put forward several demands that were rejected by the BCCI. However, there were several meetings between the board members and ICC, and finally, things were settled with the schedule announcement being made on December 24.

The acceptance of the neutral venue arrangements for the Champions Trophy was made after PCB and BCCI mutually agreed that all the matches between India and Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the 2024-2027 cycle will be played at a neutral venue.

Along with this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was awarded the hosting rights of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028, in which the same hybrid model will be applied.
