Pat Cummins "Heavily Unlikely" to Lead Australia in ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The 31-year-old's leadership credentials have witnessed a rise since his 2023 World Cup victory, where Australia triumphed over India in the final. Before that, he led Australia to the World Test Championship win. He also guided SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final.
Recently, he also helped Australia reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after ten years. However, Cummins is now "heavily unlikely" to lead Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy despite his role in a promotional campaign. Coach Andrew McDonald has said that Cummins may not be involved in the event.
The Champions Trophy 2025 to Feature 15 Matches Across Pakistan and Dubai
The Champions Trophy will feature eight teams and 15 matches across Pakistan and Dubai. India and Australia are the only teams to have won the tournament twice, with the Indian cricket team winning in 2002 (shared with Sri Lanka) and 2013, and Australia clinching back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2009.
Defending champion Pakistan, who won the 2017 edition by defeating India, will host the tournament. The event will take place from February 19 to March 9, with India playing its matches in the UAE under a hybrid model.
