ICC confirms dates and venue for 2027 WTC Final

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has, on Thursday, July 23, announced the date and venue for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 Final. The 2027 WTC Final will be held in England.

With less than a year left before the title clash, all nine Test-playing nations are still mathematically in the race. Now, every match will play a key role in deciding which two teams will fight for the prestigious trophy next year. Earlier, SA20 2027 fixtures announced: Full schedule, dates and venues revealed.

The Oval confirmed as venue for WTC 2027 Final

Well, on Thursday, the International Cricket Council confirmed that The Oval in London will host the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 Final. The title clash between the top two teams of the WTC 2025-27 points table will be played from June 9 to June 13, 2027.

This will be the second time that The Oval will be hosting the WTC Final, having last hosted the title clash in 2023, where Australia crushed India to win the coveted Test mace.

England will continue to remain the host for the WTC Final after the ICC had earlier awarded the country the hosting rights for the 2027, 2029, and 2031 editions. So, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has the rights to choose the venue for each WTC Final. Meanwhile, the ICC General Manager, Events & Operations, Gaurav Saxena, said of the announcement on the official website, "The 2027 World Test Championship Final will hold special significance as cricket celebrates 150 years of test cricket. The Oval has played a proud role in the history of our sport and has hosted some of its most memorable moments. We look forward to working closely with the ECB to deliver another world-class event that celebrates the enduring legacy of Test cricket and creates lasting memories for fans around the world.”

On the other hand, Neil Snowball, ECB Managing Director, Competitions and Major Events, stated, “We are honored to be staging the next three ICC World Test Championship Finals in England and Wales, and we’re pleased to confirm that The Oval will play host again next year. The 2023 final at The Oval was a huge hit with broadcasters and fans, and I’ve no doubt that next year’s event will be extra special again.”

Australia leads as India, Bangladesh fight for survival

Well, the race for the 2025-27 WTC Final has entered a crucial stage, with less than a year left and all nine teams still in contention. Australia is leading the points table with a points percentage of 87.50, followed by defending champions South Africa (75.00) and New Zealand (72.22).

Bangladesh has emerged as the surprise package after their 2-0 Test series win over Pakistan, moving to fourth with 58.33. India is fifth on 48.15, while Sri Lanka (41.67), England (24.36), the West Indies (15.00), and Pakistan (8.33) are also chasing a place in the final.

The next few weeks will be crucial as the West Indies host Pakistan from July 25, Australia faces Bangladesh from August 13, India takes on Sri Lanka from August 15, and England hosts Pakistan in a three-match Test series. So, these tests will play a key role in the team’s WTC Final dreams.
