India vs Pakistan is one of the major matches in any ICC event. The uncertainty clouds still loom over the 2026 T20 World Cup group stage match, as Pakistan decided not to play India on February 15th at the R Premedasa International Stadium, Colombo. The Pakistan government on Sunday gave the green light for its national side to feature in the upcoming major event.

Following the social media statement by the Pakistan government, the cricketing fraternity is in serious tension. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board does not have any official statement on the ongoing chaos, nor have they provided an update to the International Cricket Council (ICC). Under ICC, no social media posts are qualified for a formal notice for a nation not to feature.

ICC meeting scheduled in the next few hours?

There were reports on Monday that the highest cricketing body is scheduled to have a meeting within the next 48 hours. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, any discussion on sanctions or bans would take place at an ICC Board meeting, which consists of representatives from the 12 Full Member boards, three Associate Member representatives, and the ICC chairman. However, no such emergency meetings have yet taken place.

The rumours also said that PCB is not going to submit any formal notice to the global cricketing body regarding their boycott or the reason behind supporting their government’s stance. As of now, the match is scheduled, and the controversy surrounds Pakistan’s threat to skip the high-profile game in the coming weeks. The apex body already gave a statement on the matter after the national government’s social media post.

No formal notice to ICC from PCB

The Pakistan government post on X read, “The Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan grants approval to the Pakistan Cricket Team to participate in the ICC World T20 2026; however, the team shall not take the field in the match scheduled on 15 February 2026 against India.”

In reply, the apex body stated that "selective participation" will not be allowed, keeping in mind the "fundamental premise of a global sporting event" and that it expects the Pakistan Cricket Board to find a mutual solution that protects the interests of all stakeholders. It further said, “The ICC hopes that the PCB will consider the significant and long-term implications for cricket in its own country as this is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem, which it is itself a member and beneficiary of.”

Will PCB and ICC come in the same line?

Despite the rumours of the emergency meeting, as per recent reports from Cricbuzz, there are 16 members on the global cricket board, and, according to multiple directors spoken to by them, there has been no such meeting scheduled at the moment. With just three days left for the marquee event to kick off, the global body needs to make the decisions quickly.

In case Pakistan sticks to their plans of not playing against India, they could face sanctions and a ban from playing in major tournaments. Their revenue might also be affected by the ICC, and big teams might not travel to Pakistan to play a bilateral series, along with docking of points from the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
