Young Indian batter Shubman Gill expressed his excitement to open the innings along with skipper Rohit Sharma in the much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023. Shubman Gill revealed that Rohit Sharma allows his batting partners to play their natural game and express themselves.

Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Ishan Kishan have been named as the three openers in India’s 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. Rohit and Gill had a good opening partnership record, amassing 685 runs at 76.11 in the nine innings batting together in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma Gives The Players Full Freedom – Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill credited Rohit Sharma for his performances in the 50-over format, as he encourages batters to play freely and express themselves.

“It feels great to be able to open with him, especially knowing that all the focus is on him,” Gill said.

“He’s someone who likes the other batters to go and just express himself and play the way I want to play the game. So in that nature, he gives the players full freedom for how they want to express their game,” he added.

I Think That Combination Works Well – Shubman Gill

“I think because his (Rohit’s) targeted areas are a bit different (to mine). He loves to go aerial in the Powerplay,” Gill further added.

“And I’m someone who likes to find the gaps and keep getting those boundaries, and he’s someone who likes to hit sixes. So I think that combination works well,” he concluded.
