Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has taken aim at the Pakistan Cricket Board for attempting to modify the venues of the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023, a request that was ultimately denied by the International Cricket Council.

Despite the PCB’s worries about playing the arch-rivals in Ahmedabad, the eagerly awaited India vs. Pakistan game will take place as scheduled on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The ICC observed that none of the PCB’s requests for venue alterations were granted after the World Cup 2023 schedule was made public. They will still take on India in the pivotal match on October 15 in Ahmedabad.

Additionally, their appeals for different locations for their games against Australia in Bengaluru and against Afghanistan in Chennai were ignored, which led to the PCB berating the squad for competing in the World Cup.

The PCB has now stated that the Pakistan team’s participation in the World Cup in India will be contingent on whether the central government gives them the go-ahead. In response, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has urged the PCB to relax and stop being so stubborn about not playing.

“I am hearing on news channels and YouTube that Pakistan may not be willing to play their matches in Ahmedabad and one more venue. Why not? ICC’s schedule for the World Cup is a huge advantage for Pakistan. If 1,25,000 come to attend the match in Ahmedabad, the pressure is on India, and not Pakistan. If India was to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan, then the pressure would have been on Pakistan,” Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel.

“I don’t know why people can’t understand this simple thing. And Afghanistan is a weak team – yes, they have good spinners – but wherever the schedule has been finalized, just play. This is nonsense. I keep hearing that Pakistan may not get the permission. Of course, they will. Boss, it’s not some local tournament. It’s a bloody World Cup,”  Basit Ali added.

“Please play your matches as per the schedule”- Basit Ali

From a distance, Pakistan’s schedule appears to be very simple. They will play their nine league games at five separate locations—Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata—in sharp contrast to India, who will play their games in nine different cities. This is a significant benefit, as Basit Ali emphasizes, and he asked the PCB to recognize it.

“Now the second part… the advantage which Pakistan has. Normally, each team will be playing two warm-up matches, but in Pakistan’s case, they will technically be playing 4 – two practice games and one each against the two qualifying teams – before they face India in Ahmedabad. If Pakistan goes into the India tie on the back of a formidable show against the four teams previously, it will be a huge boost for them and the players,” Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel.

“Imagine Babar Azam scoring a century or Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah picking a five-wicket haul. Just imagine what it will do to their confidence against India. So it is my heartfelt request. Please play your matches as per the schedule,” Basit Ali added.

Cricket matches between India and Pakistan have always been greatly anticipated by both players and fans. The high stakes, intense atmosphere, and overwhelming fan support combine to create this unforgettable event.
