Australia captain Pat Cummins might be in doubt for the three-match ODI series against India ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023. The ace pace bowler suspected has broken his left wrist as per the reports in Sydney Morning Herald.

The reports suggested that Pat Cummins had injured his left wrist during the Day 1 of the final Test of the recently concluded Ashes 2023 at The Oval. The premier fast bowler played with injury throughout the game. He also had heavily strapped his wrist and was seen struggling to bowl as well. The Australian skipper despite battling injury fought like a warrior as he picked two wickets in the game with the ball and made a useful contribution with the bat in the first innings, scoring 36 runs.

Cricket Australia is expected to announce the squad for the series against South Africa as well as India in the coming days. Pat Cummins, who played 6 consecutive Test matches on tour to England, might be missing out on the white-ball series. But it is expected that he will be fully fit for the ICC World Cup 2023.

In Pat Cummins’ absence, it is learned that Micthell Marsh will lead Australia on both tours. The all-rounder is also in the talks to be named as the next T20I skipper of the team. The Aussies are without the captain in the shortest format of the game ever since Aaron Finch retired. Various reports have suggested that Marsh is the front-runner to take the role and the decision is likely to be taken soon, especially with T20 World Cup 2024 around the corner.

After the month off break, Australia will be touring South Africa for the three-match T20I series along with the five-match ODI series, which will serve as an ideal preparation for them for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The 20-over format games will be played from 30th August to 3rd September.

The focus will then be on the five-match series, which will be played from 7th October to 17th September. Following that Australia will travel to India to play the three-match ODI series, slated to be played from 22nd September to 27th September.
