Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has stated that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will be under pressure to deliver the World Cup at home this year.

Expectations will be sky-high from Team India in the ICC World Cup 2023. The last time India hosted the competition in 2011, they had gone on to win the World Cup under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. India became the first team to win the World Cup on home soil.

The fans are expecting something similar from Rohit Sharma & Co. too. The Indian team has faced severe criticism for failing to win an ICC tournament in recent years. India’s last win in an ICC tournament came in 2013 when MS Dhoni-led them to Champions League glory in England.

With Team India desperately seeking an ICC trophy, the onus will be on Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma to deliver the title at home this year. And when Sourav Ganguly was asked whether Dravid and Rohit would be under pressure, the former India captain stated that pressure would always be there.

Ganguly said that Dravid was under pressure even when he was playing and the situation is the same even when he is serving as a coach. The legendary cricketer also backed the India skipper and the coach to succeed in the World Cup.

“Pressure will always be there. When they played before also, there was pressure. Rohit Sharma has five centuries in the last ODI World Cup. I am sure there must have been pressure on him then also,” Sourav Ganguly told RevSportz.

“Pressure is not a problem. I am sure they will find a way to succeed. During Rahul Dravid’s playing days, there was pressure to perform, and now that he is the head coach, there is pressure on him to deliver. That will not go away, and I don’t think pressure is an issue,” he added.

Meanwhile, India are scheduled to open their campaign in ICC World Cup 2023 against five-time world champions Australia.
