Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh feels that Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal are two missing players in India’s squad for ICC World Cup 2023. Harbhajan Singh lauded Yuzvendra Chahal’s spin attack and Arshdeep Singh’s ability to get early wickets.

While Yuzvendra Chahal missed out on a place in India’s final squad for ICC World Cup 2023, Arshdeep Singh was not considered for a spot. Chahal lost his place to Kuldeep Yadav, who has executed a marvelous job in ODIs this year.

Arshdeep Singh has only played 3 ODIs so far but he has done a superb job in T20Is and is a regular member of the shortest format. Moreover, Arshdeep Singh is the only regular left-arm pacer in India’s national squad.

While speaking during a press conference on Star Sports, cricketer-turned-commentator Harbhajan Singh was asked whom he thinks should have been there in India’s squad for the ICC World Cup 2023. To this, Singh took the names of Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh.

“Two players are missing – (Yuzvendra) Chahal and Arshdeep (Singh) – the left arm seamer could have been very useful because he can give early wickets. You have seen that Shaheen Afridi and Mitchell Starc can create a very different kind of impact.

Yuzi Chahal is a proven match-winner, if he were playing for any other team in the world, he would have been in the first XI. He has proved himself time and time again and it is unfortunate that he missed out from the Indian side,” the former Indian off-spinner said.

Harbhajan Singh also pointed out that India has inducted two left-arm spinners in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, who might not play together in any match.

“We have picked up 2 left-arm spinners, who are never going to play together and if they have a lot of left-handers in the opposition, they might not play all together. I think Chahal and Arshdeep should have been in the team,” the former right-arm spinner further added.

Not Picking Yuzvendra Chahal Beyond Me: Shoaib Akhtar

Harbhajan Singh’s co-panellist Shoaib Akhtar also supported his arguments on Yuzvendra Chahal. The former Pakistan pacer said that it was beyond his understanding why Chahal was dropped.

“Not picking Chahal is beyond me. The odd thing for India is that when they score 220-230 they increase one batter. If the top 5 do not bat well, how will the no. 8 bat?” Akhtar said.
