Kyle Jamieson ran through the Indian middle-order and lower-middle-order on the third morning of the ICC World Test Championship final. He had figures of 5/31 as India were bowled out for 217 in their first innings just after lunch. In the process, Jamieson took his fifth five-wicket haul in this competition, the most by any bowler in the tournament so far. He took his wickets tally to 41 in just seven matches in the process.

Kyle Jamieson took the wicket of Indian skipper Virat Kohli to give the Kiwis their first breakthrough of the third morning. Kohli fell on 44 failing to add to his overnight score. His other wickets included Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah finishing with 5/31. It was he who orchestrated India’s downfall on the third morning. India lost their last eight wickets for 71 runs.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin, Nathan Lyon and Axar Patel have all taken four five-wicket hauls each in the ICC World Test Championship. Jamieson has topped them all with a splendid bowling performance at Southampton.

Jamieson has been very much the center of attraction of the Kiwi bowling attack. Along with him, Trent Boult and Tim Southee picked two each as Tim Southee picked one. India lost four wickets for 65 runs in the first session and their tail-enders were cleaned up in no time in the second session.

The Indian pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami would now like to repeat what the Kiwi bowlers have done. India have opted for a five-man bowling attack with Ashwin and Jadeja forming their spin attack. With talks regarding India likely to alter their playing XI after the first day was washed out, Virat Kohli has decided to stick with the same XI saying that they selected their strongest XI keeping the playing conditions aside.

Both Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli are yet to win their first ICC title as captain. The WTC final might bring an end to the wait of one of the two captains.
