Talking about the match, Day 1 of the second Test started very late due to the wet ground. India won the toss and opted to bat first and the opening duo of Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill performed well and added 80 runs. However, after Gill got out India faced a batting collapse as Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli got out on duck and Shreyas Iyer was dismissed on 18. Also, Kiwi Spinner Ajaz Patel was the bowler who dismissed all 4 Indian batters on Day 1. Then Mayank Agarwal smashed a sensational century and Wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha provided good support and India ended the day with 221 runs at the loss of 4 wickets.
Day 2 of the Mumbai Test was dominated by the Indian team but it saw history being created by New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel who became the third bowler in 144 years of the history of Test cricket to bag 10 wickets in an innings. The star performer from India in the first innings was Mayank Agarwal who smashed 150 runs and Axar Patel who scored his maiden half-century to help India post 325 runs on the board.
When New Zealand came out to bat in the first innings batters didn’t look comfortable and every batter was seen struggling against the Indian bowling unit. Pacer Mohammed Siraj picked 3 wickets under 6 overs and then spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and Jayant Yadav joined the party and New Zealand were bundled out at 62.
Despite having a good lead India didn’t impose follow-on and they decided to bat and Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara opened the innings and at Stumps India were at 69/0.
