ICC World Test Championship: 4 Bowlers With Most Fifers In The Tournament

ICC World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand is underway at The Rose Bowl Cricket Stadium in Southampton, England. Asked to bat first, India were bowled out for 217 in the first innings with none of the players reaching a half-century. New Zealand has managed to get a good start with a fifty by opener Devon Conway (54). At the stumps of Day 3, New Zealand reached 101/2 on the scoreboard with Kane Williamson (12*) and Ross Taylor (0*) on strike.

India and New Zealand qualified for ICC World Test Championship final after finishing on the top two spots in the points table. There were 9 teams that were part of the ICC World Test Championship. Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has picked 4 five-wicket hauls in 27 innings in ICC World Test Championship. The right-arm spinner picked 6 wickets in an innings during Australia vs England 1st Test in August 2019. The off-spinner also picked 5 wickets in both the innings during Australia vs New Zealand 3rd Test in January 2020.

Lyon’s 4th fifer came during Australia vs Pakistan 2nd Test in Nov-Dec 2019 when he scalped 5 wickets in the 2nd innings of the match. Overall, Nathan Lyon accounts for 56 wickets in 27 innings in the tournament at an average of 31.37.

Indian spinner Axar Patel also accounts for 4 fifers in ICC World Test Championship. The left-arm spinner made his international Test debut during India vs England Test series in February-March 2021. Patel’s all 4 five-wicket hauls arrived during the 4-match Test series against England.

In the 2nd Test of the series, the left-arm spinner picked 5 wickets for 60 runs in the 2nd innings. In the 3rd Test, he scalped 6 wickets for 38 runs in the 1st innings and then took 5 wickets for 32 runs in the 2nd innings. Later, during India vs England 4th Test, he scalped 5 wickets for 48 runs in the 2nd innings. Overall, Axar Patel has picked 27 wickets in 6 innings in the tournament at an average of 10.59.

Ravichandran Ashwin- 4

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also accounts for 4 fifers in ICC World Test Championship. The right-arm spinner picked 7 wickets for 145 runs during India vs South Africa 1st Test in October 2019. During India vs England 1st Test in February 2021, he picked 6 wickets for 61 runs in the 2nd innings.

In the 2nd Test against England, Ashwin picked a 5-wicket haul after conceding 43 runs. Later in the 4th Test against England, Ashwin picked 5 wickets for 47 runs in the 2nd innings. So far in the tournament, Ashwin has picked 68 wickets in 25 innings at an average of 20.86.

New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson has picked most fifers in ICC World Test Championship with 5. The right-arm pacer picked 5 wickets for 69 runs in the 1st innings during New Zealand vs Pakistan 2nd Test in January 2021. In the 2nd innings of the same match, Jamieson picked 6 wickets for 48 runs.

During New Zealand vs West Indies 2nd Test in December 2020, the 26-year-old scalped 5 wickets for 34 runs in the 1st innings. Jamieson’s 4th five-wicket haul came during New Zealand vs India 2nd Test in February 2020, when he took 5 wickets for 45 runs in the 1st innings.

The Kiwi pacer’s 5th fifer came against India in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship final. He picked 5 wickets in the first innings while conceding 31 runs. So far, Kyle Jamieson has picked 41 wickets in 13 innings in the tournament at an average of 12.41.
