Legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar believes that ace Indian batter Virat Kohli will be inspired by Steve Smith’s success in Australia’s first innings of the World Test Championship final. Sunil Gavaskar said that Virat Kohli was capable of producing similar performances with the bat in the final.

India came back brilliantly with the ball on Day 2 after conceding 327 on the opening day of the match. The Indian bowlers picked up four wickets in the first session and conceded 95 runs. The Men in Blue took the opposition’s last three wickets in less than 12 overs in the post-lunch session.

Speaking to the official broadcasters on Day 2 of the WTC 2023 Final, Sunil Gavaskar said that Virat Kohli has always been compared with other players in the Fab 4.

“Well, first and foremost, he loves playing against the Australians. He has got a terrific record against the Australians. Now, he has also seen somebody he has always been compared with Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, these are the top batters in the world,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports.

“Everybody talks about it. He has not seen Steve Smith get a hundred. He would definitely want to get a hundred to show ‘look he has got it, even I can get it’. That will be his aim at the moment,” he added.

Even On Day 2, The Ball Is Doing A Bit – Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar said that he was interested to see how Shubman Gill plays against Australia’s pace bowling attack in the big WTC final.

“But, of course, before that, there is Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma. Plenty of batting. We are all interested to see how Shubman Gill plays against this attack on this pitch. Even on Day 2, the ball is doing a bit, jumping up,” Gavaskar added.
