Former Australia cricketer Adam Gilchrist is of the opinion that Cricket Australia should take a call on head coach Justin Langer’s future with the national team as soon as possible.

Langer, who was appointed as Australia’s head coach in the aftermath of the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town, has been under constant criticism for his management style, for which he has fallen out with the team players.

The T20I series defeats against West Indies and Bangladesh in the recent tour has made it worse for Langer, whose contract with the national team will expire in the middle of 2022.

Gilchrist, who has shared the dressing room with Langer during their playing days, feels the national board must address his former teammate’s future with the Australian team before the matter becomes exacerbate.

“Justin is very aware of these perceived issues with his management style, and he’s going to keep trying to work with that, and I’m sure the players will try to work alongside that as well,” Gilchrist told SEN Radio on Monday.

“But the bigger issue, and it will derail the summer if it doesn’t get sorted out, is the fact these journalists have a direct line of contact with people within the inner sanctum there, and the people in that inner sanctum are happy to let it get out.

“So, Cricket Australia needs to try to address this very quickly. If everyone believes the best thing to do is move on from Justin Langer as a coach, do it sooner rather than later because it is just going to create a side issue, which is going to continue to be a circus,” Gilchrist added.

Australia is scheduled to host the 2022 Men’s ICC T20 World Cup after the event, which was originally supposed to take in 2020, was pushed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
