Former England captain Michael Vaughan said that England’s white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan will have to be consistent with his performance to play the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Morgan has been facing a lean patch with his batting as we haven’t seen the blistering Morgan, scoring those brisk runs for England in the middle-order. The England skipper’s batting average in the shortest format has been dipping with every year passing, it was 16.67 in 2021.

I hope Eoin Morgan gets to the T20 World Cup: Michael Vaughan

Morgan could manage just 133 runs from 17 matches for the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021.

Morgan made 40 against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup in a 112-run stand with his deputy Jos Buttler to bail out England from a top-order collapse.

Vaughan said that if Morgan doesn’t bring changes in his batting then England might see Jos Buttler leading the team.

They’ve got probably five or six people that could captain the side. (Morgan) will be desperate, and I hope he gets to the T20 World Cup, but if he doesn’t find a form with the bat it wouldn’t surprise me if England have Jos Buttler captaining in a few months’ time,” Vaughan was quoted as saying by The West Australian.

Jofra Archer won’t be able to play all three formats consistently: Michael Vaughan

England pace bowler Jofra Archer has started training with the England T20 squad in Barbados. Last month, Archer underwent a second surgery on his right elbow and missed the T20 World Cup 2021 and Ashes for England.

Vaughan said it will be difficult for the 26-year-old pace bowler to play all the three formats and wants the England team management to manage his workload.

Clearly, his elbow’s bad. You don’t have too many, three operations on one part of the body unless there’s a real problem in there,” Vaughan said.

“I think realistically, playing all three formats consistently with an injury like that is going to be difficult. I hope they can manage it in a way that allows him to play some Test cricket but not all; obviously some white-ball cricket but not all,” he concluded.

England will play against West Indies in a five-match T20I series, starting on January 23 with all matches will be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
