If Hardik Pandya Remains Fit, Bowls Well And The Ability He Has With The Bat, He Will Be Slightly Ahead Of Shardul Thakur – Aakash Chopra

Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra in a video shared on his official YouTube channel spoke about the potential return of all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the Test team and the position of Shardul Thakur in the team in the longest format of the game.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been struggling a lot with the lower back issues and he has not been able to roll his arms consistently and he has not played for Team India in Test cricket since September 2018.

In Hardik’s absence, Shardul Thakur has been doing the fast bowling all-rounder’s job in the Indian Test side and so far he has done an excellent job. In the recent Test against South Africa at the Wanderers, Johannesburg he bagged a 7-wicket haul and has been consistent with the bat as well.

Meanwhile, Chopra was asked whether it is the end of the road for Hardik in Test cricket after the emergence of Shardul to which he replied by saying it will be tough for Hardik to make a comeback if his back issue continues.

“Never say never. Honestly speaking, Hardik has himself said that he doesn’t want to play, considering the state of his back. To be very honest, if Hardik’s back issue continues to ail him and he doesn’t bowl, then it is very very tough.”

“But if he recovers fully, he becomes bowling fit and can bowl the long spells, then Hardik is Hardik,” Chopra further said while underlining the potential of a fully-fit Hardik.

If You Need A Fourth Fast Bowler Plus A Proper Batter, Then Hardik Pandya Will Bring Slightly More Balance – Aakash Chopra

Former Indian cricketer Chopra further added that Hardik brings more balance to the team as he bats very well. He explained:

“If you need a fourth fast bowler plus a proper batter, then Hardik Pandya will bring slightly more balance in this team, that is what I believe because the fourth fast bowler you play as one of the five, then his role as a batter is slightly more as compared to him being a bowler.

He also said that Hardik will be “ slightly ahead” of Shardul if the former becomes fully fit to bowl. He said:

“So in my opinion, if Hardik remains fit, bowls well and the ability he has with the bat, he will be slightly ahead of Shardul. But till he is not fit, Shardul is destroying everyone.”
