Indian leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav is confident of coming back in the reckoning in the main team if he does well in the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka.

A second-string Indian team-led by Shikhar Dhawan will lock horns with Sri Lanka in three ODIs and as many T20Is next month.

And, for someone like Kuldeep Yadav, the series is extremely crucial.

Once an integral part of the Indian white-ball set-up, Kuldeep Yadav’s stocks have declined at an alarming rate in the past couple of years.

His poor form coupled with the lack of faith shown by the team management means that he is no longer the first-choice spinner in either ODIs or T20Is.

With the T20 World Cup coming up in a few months’ time, the upcoming series is the last chance for Yadav to present his case.

“This Sri Lanka tour is very, very important because, first of all, I’m not a part of the Test squad (in England). And secondly, this is one good opportunity to play and perform. Thereafter, we’ve got the IPL as well, which gives me another opportunity to be back in the reckoning.” said Kuldeep Yadav during an interaction with ‘The Telegraph’.

But, Kuldeep Yadav isn’t bothered about the T20 World Cup just yet. He is currently focused on putting his best foot forward in whatever opportunities he gets in Sri Lanka.

“Nothing parallels performance, and if I perform, I know I’ll definitely be back, honestly, I’m not thinking much about a T20 World Cup berth now because it eventually boils down to how well I keep doing. There’s healthy competition in the squad, so I know what my job is,” he added.

That said, India have a whole host of spin-bowling options to pick from which includes the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Varun Chakravarthy, Rahul Chahar, and it will be interesting to see how many games Kuldeep Yadav actually gets to play during the six white-ball internationals.
