Sourav Ganguly, former India captain and current BCCI president, does not genuinely think about comparing captains because each has their style of leading the team.

While Rohit Sharma has made an immediate impact, Sourav Ganguly believes he should be given more time before drawing comparisons to MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

As the Indian cricket team’s captain, Rohit Sharma has enjoyed a great start. The Indian squad has had great success ever since the Hitman took over as captain from Virat Kohli. These encouraging performances have also prompted comparisons between Rohit and his predecessors, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, among fans.

However, Sourav Ganguly, another illustrious Indian team captain, feels it is unfair to compare them because each has a unique way of handling situations. In contrast to Virat, from whom he took the captaincy, Ganguly believes Rohit is a more laid-back captain.
“Rohit Sharma is a bit laid back who approaches things in a very calm and cautious way and not someone who is into your face all the time,” Ganguly said on the sidelines of an event in Kolkata, as per news agency PTI.

‘India has produced some great captains’: Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly also mentioned Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, Rohit is predecessors who both had very successful administrations.
“Over the years, India has produced several outstanding captains. MS Dhoni handled the changeover superbly and continues to get praise for both his team, the Chennai Super Kings, and India. Then Virat Kohli arrived, who also has a stellar track record. He was a distinct kind of captain and operated uniquely.”

“Each person is unique, but what matters is the outcome and how many victories and defeats you have. I do not compare captains; everyone has a different style of management.”

Rohit’s performance as captain thus far has undoubtedly shown a lot of promise, but the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup 2022 will serve as his ultimate tests.
