I’m Not Sure We’ve Seen The End Of Him– Justin Langer On Tim Paine

Australia Men’s Cricket Team Head Coach Justin Langer has said that Tim Paine’s Test career is not over and he could still make a comeback and play for Australia again.

Tim Paine, who was set to don the gloves for Australia in the marquee Ashes series, stepped down from captaincy following the involvement in the sexting scandal, and he has also decided to take an ” indefinite mental health break” from cricket. Also, Alex Carey has been handed the gloves in Paine’s absence and he will be making his Test debut in the marquee Ashes 2021-22 series.

Meanwhile, Paine will turn 37 on the opening day of the first Ashes Test at the Gabba on December 8 and talking about him Langer said that he is very fit and looks so well after himself. Australia head coach stated:

“He loves cricket. He absolutely loves cricket, And he’s 37. He is a fit as any athlete, certainly in our squad. He looks after himself so well. He’s very focused. So who knows.”

Justin Langer added that currently, Paine’s no. 1 priority is family and he didn’t rule out the possibility of Paine’s return to the longest format of the game. He asserted:

“His No.1 priority at the moment is family as you can imagine, and that’s how it should be. I’m not sure we’ve seen the end of him. But we’ll wait and see. That’ll be his decision.”

Australia Head Coach said that he admires Paine a lot and said that he is one of the best people he met in cricket. Langer said:

“He’s one of my really close friends and someone I admire enormously, In this generation of players that I didn’t play with, he is one of the best people I’ve met in the game of cricket.”

Langer also said that the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman was shattered by the things that have happened in his life. He said:

“He’s been a captain for a long time. He and I have been through a journey like we have with all this group. He’s obviously shattered with what’s happened. Because he’s been such an exemplary figure in Australian cricket for the last four years.”

Justin Langer mentioned that every human being makes a mistake in their life and former Australian Captain Paine is paying “a heavy price for it”. He stated:

“We live in a world of perfectionism, don’t we? We’re a very judgemental society, As I said at my very first press conference (after sandpaper-gate) … there’s not one person asking questions or watching this who hasn’t made a mistake in their life.”

“There’s not a single person. And our captain, one of the best, made a mistake and is paying a heavy price for it.”
