Former Pakistan Prime Minister and World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan is set to be moved from prison to a hospital after growing concerns about his health.
The former Pakistan PM is in jail because of several corruption cases and other legal cases. These include the Al-Qadir Trust case, the Toshakhana gifts case, leaking state secrets, and cases related to violence. The legendary all-rounder insisted that the cases are politically motivated. Amid this, Babar Azam ruled out of the first Test against England.
Imran Khan to be moved from Prison to Hospital
As reported by The Telegraph, Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered the transfer of the 73-year-old Imran Khan on Tuesday (August 18, 2026). The former Pakistani captain has been in jail for nearly three years after facing several legal cases following his removal as prime minister in 2022.
The legendary all-rounder is expected to be shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within 48 hours. He will remain there at least until September 16, according to his political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), spokesperson Zulfikar Bukhari.
This could be the longest time Imran Khan has stayed outside prison since his arrest. The hospital transfer has been a long-standing demand of Khan’s family and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). His sons, Kasim and Sulaiman, have also repeatedly raised concerns about their father’s health.
Family can meet Imran Khan in Hospital
The Supreme Court has also ordered the formation of a medical board to monitor the former Prime Minister’s treatment in Islamabad. His sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, and personal doctor, Dr. Faisal Sultan, are expected to be part of the medical team.
The PTI spokesperson Zulfikar Bukhari was quoted as saying by The Telegraph, "It's a very welcome order, and we wish it had happened sooner so his eye and general health would not have deteriorated this much. He should remain in the hospital until all doctors are satisfied.”
The Supreme Court has also allowed Khan’s family to meet him in the hospital. He can speak with his sons, who live abroad. Amid this, Dharmesh Bhardwaj, BCCI umpire, admitted to ICU after being hit in DPL.
Bhandari added, “The court also directed that Khan’s family be allowed to meet him at the hospital and that he be permitted to speak with his sons, who live abroad.”
