India head coach Rahul Dravid opened up about coaching his son Samit. The former Indian skipper said that he’s trying to stay only as a parent and even in that he doesn’t know what he is doing.

Rahul Dravid’s son Samit has been doing rounds for his exceptional performances in junior-level cricket. The Indian head coach’s son, who is 18-year-old has made himself a great name in Karnataka cricket and is doing equally well with bat and ball.

Batting in the top order, Samit Dravid has played a huge role in taking Karnataka to the final of the Cooch Beher Trophy. The all-rounder has scored 370 runs in 7 games at an average of 37.78 and also has slammed three half-centuries.

Apart from this, Samit Dravid, who bowls fast has picked three wickets as well in the competition. The all-rounder has been watched keenly purely because of his father. Many tout him as junior Rahul Dravid and if groomed well he can do wonders.

After the India vs Afghanistan 1st T20I, Rahul Dravid interacted with Jio Cinema broadcasters. Suresh Raina asked him about his son. Rahul Dravid admitted that he doesn’t try to coach his son because parenting and coaching are tough. He elaborated:

“Samit ko coaching karne ki koshish hi nahi karta hu.. Parent aur coach dono Banna mushkil hai.. Parent rehne ki koshish kar rha hu, usme bhi pata nahi mai kya kar rha hu (I do not even try to coach Samit. Being a parent and coach both are tough. I try to stay as a parent. I don’t know what I am doing in that also,).”

Rahul Dravid is currently part of the Indian team for the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan. Under him team won the first game by a margin of 6 wickets and took an early lead in the series.

Rahul Dravid is expected to continue with the team at least till the T20 World Cup 2024. His coaching tenure ended after the ICC World Cup 2023 but he was reappointed by the BCCI and since then has been with the team. There has been no clarity as to till when he will be there.

IND vs AFG: Players like Rinku, Jaiswal and Tilak have come in as well – Rahul Dravid in awe of young players

Indian head coach Rahul Dravid recently praised the young left-handers in the Indian T20I. He was in awe of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Tilak Varma, stating that they added a nice string to the bow.

Rahul Dravid however, mentioned that they don’t select teams based on the player being a left-hander. He quipped that they needed to perform to be selected. He explained:

“Players like Rinku, Jaiswal and Tilak have come in as well, which adds a nice string to the bow. But in the end, we make selection on the basis of performance, not just on the left-hand or right-hand batsman.

“We still have left-handers in the line-up. But it is not only about left-handers but it is their ability to play through a period and to be able to tackle different kinds of spin that there is.”

The second match between India and Afghanistan will be played in Indore on 14th January. The hosts would be hoping to seal the series.
