IND vs AFG: Yashasvi Jaiswal Reveals The Story Behind Fazalhaq Farooqi Comical Run Out

Yashasvi Jaiswal is a name who has defied all odds by coming from a remote village in UP to reach the pinnacle of India’s batting line-up. From selling pani-puri for pocket money to becoming World cricket’s next big thing, the youngster has come a long way. Last night in the 2nd T20I against Afghanistan he was spot on not just with his bat but also with his fielding.
The 22-year-old’s smartness and effortful fielding in the final over of the 1st innings at Holkar was truly exceptional. Yashasvi Jaiswal led to the run out of tailender Fazalhaq Farooqi by sprinting toward the stumps instead of relying on his luck and throwing the ball for a bull’s eye hit and that has been the case with him.
Jaiswal has never taken shortcuts and has always done things the hard way. He had to fight for everything he has in his career at the moment and the scary part is that he is just getting started. He is neither in a mood to slow down nor is he backing away from putting in more hard work and his run-out attempt last evening was a perfect justification of his personality.

It was in the last ball of the 19th over when tailenders Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen Ul Haq were involved in a mix-up while trying to complete a double run. The duo had already got a single but since it was the last ball of the innings, they wanted to get as much as they could.
Jitesh Sharma who is keeping the wickets for India, attempted to run out Farooqi but ended up missing the stumps with the ball going towards the mid-wicket region where Yashasvi Jaiswal was standing attentively. Seeing the overthrow, Naveen Ul Haq started his run back toward the striker’s end but Farooqi was not sure enough and started his run very late.
And that was when Jaiswal had the opportunity to run him out. He could have just thrown the ball to the stumps, any other fielder might have but Yashasvi Jaiswal took the hard way. Knowing that he might miss the target, he chose to run straight to the non-striker’s end and completed Afghanistan’s all-out for 172.
Then in the 2nd innings, he carried the same momentum and smacked an emphatic 68 off 34 with a strike rate of 200. When he was asked to describe the run out of Farooqi, this is what he had to say. “I was a little confused whether I should hit the stumps or not but then I thought I can get him (Farooqi) out by reaching there, so I sprinted and just went for it.” – Yashasvi Jaiswal said.
