IND vs AUS: Australia Series "Unnecessary" Says Wasim Akram Following India's Asia Cup Win

Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram has made a big statement on India’s upcoming ODI series against Australia. The Men in Blue are fresh from their eighth Asia Cup title win by beating Sri Lanka in the final on Sunday, September 17.
Mohammed Siraj took 6/21 as Sri Lanka were rolled over for just 50. Hardik Pandya claimed three wickets while Jasprit Bumrah took one as Sri Lanka endured their second-lowest total in one-day internationals.
India chased down the score in 6.1 overs with Ishan Kishan (23) and Shubman Gill (27) staying unbeaten at the crease. Gill ended the tournament as the highest run-getter scoring 302 runs at an average of 75.50.
Meanwhile, Wasim Akram while talking to Star Sports after India’s Asia Cup win said that the upcoming series against Australia is unnecessary considering it will add to the fatigue of the players before the big World Cup at home.
The Indian side has been on the road since August with a full-fledged tour of the West Indies before the Asia Cup, which spanned over two weeks. With little time to rest between the Australia ODIs and the World Cup, Akram believes that it may not be in the best of interests the Indian players to take part in the bilateral series.
Dont Know Why They Are Playing Three ODIs: Wasim Akram
“There are different venues and traveling in India… it takes a day (between every match). You need to preserve energy before the World Cup. I don’t know why they are playing three ODIs. It is probably done a long time ago, but it was a bit unnecessary. You don’t want to be tired before a mega-tournament where you are favorites at home. If you want some more players in the squad, you can play those in the three ODIs against Australia,” Akram said to Star Sports.
The three-match ODI series will be played between September 22-27 in Mohali, Indore and Rajkot respectively.
