Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh feels that India will have a big advantage over Australia in their first match of ICC World Cup 2023 with a slow wicket in Chennai. India vs Australia match is set to take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The wicket at Chepauk Stadium is often considered a slow wicket and helps spinners. Spinners usually enjoy a good advantage at the stadium. Even the average 1st and 2nd innings totals at the stadium in ODIs are 224 and 205 respectively.

India Have A Big Advantage In Chennai- Harbhajan Singh

While speaking about the IND vs AUS match on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan Singh said that India will have a very big advantage in Chennai because it has a slow wicket. However, he also added that batters will benefit from the bounce.

“India have a very big advantage as the match is taking place in Chennai. The wicket over there will be slow. However, the good thing for batters will be the bounce. The bounce will be quite good. I don’t think there could have been a better venue for India’s first match,” the former right-arm spinner said.

Harbhajan Singh also feels that India is more likely to win the match. He also noted that after crashing Australia in the ODI series and winning Asia Cup 2023 last month, Team India will be quite confident.

“It is 60-40 in India’s favor. India have played some very good cricket in the recent past. A young Indian team did very well against Australia in the ODI series, winning 2-1. The team also won the Asia Cup. So, they will be very confident at the moment,” the former off-spinner further said.

India had a wonderful show last month. They won the Asia Cup 2023 trophy after defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final. They also outplayed Australia 2-1 in the ODI series by winning the first two games.

Meanwhile, there were reports that Shubman Gill has fallen ill and might miss the opening encounter against Australia. For Australia, Marcus Stoinis will be absent from the opening game due to injury.
