IND vs AUS: Pat Cummins brutally shuts the door on David Warner's face for Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Australia captain Pat Cummins has dismissed any chance of David Warner returning for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against India. Pat Cummins said that David Warner won't be considered for the five-match Test series against the Rohit Sharma-led side at home later this year.
Australia will have to find the opening partner of Usman Khawaja for the Test series against India. There are many contenders to open the batting in the highly anticipated series. David Warner stirred a debate by offering to make a comeback in the Test side despite retiring from international cricket.
Warner played his farewell Test match against Pakistan in Sydney earlier this year. The southpaw retired from international cricket after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Following Warner's retirement, Steve Smith played as an opener for Australia in Test cricket, but the decision did not yield positive results.
I'm Always Available - David Warner
David Warner surprised everyone by saying that he is ready to make his return to the Australian team for the series against India. Warner said that he would be willing to play in the next Shield game if needed.
"I’m always available, just got to pick up the phone," the 37-year-old told Code Sports.
"I’m always dead serious. Let’s be honest, the guys have played one red-ball game since their last Test matches in February, so I’ve almost had the same preparation. Honestly, if they really needed myself for this series, I’m more than happy to play the next Shield game and go out there and play," he added.
We're Very Interested - Pat Cummins
Speaking to the Grade Cricketer, Pat Cummins humorously responded to David Warner’s comeback offer. Cummins wished Warner luck with his new role at Sydney Thunder in the upcoming BBL season. He stated that Warner's offer is a bit of a wind-up and added that he is officially retired.
"Dave, we’re very interested. We’re taking it very seriously and we’ll be in touch, mate," Pat Cummins said on the podcast.
"I did speak to Dave a couple of days ago. I can’t remember if he reached out or I did… he’s like, “What do you think?”, and I was like, “Yeah, good luck with [Sydney] Thunder and I look forward to your comments on Fox,” he said.
"I think the truth’s somewhere in the middle. I reckon it (offer) is a bit of a wind-up but I reckon he doesn’t mind seeing himself in the back page. We love Davey but he is retired," Pat Cummins added.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy Set To Commence On November 22
The five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy will commence on November 22 in Perth, followed by the second Test in Adelaide on December 6. The remaining matches will be played in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.
Marcus Harris, Cameron Bancroft, and Sam Konstas have been selected for the Australia A squad to face India A in two matches, which will be an audition for the opening position. Uncapped Konstas has made a strong case with two centuries in the Sheffield Shield.
