IND vs AUS: Rishabh Pant Has Inspired A Lot Of Wicket-Keepers Around The World - Adam Gilchrist

Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist believes that Indian keeper-batter Rishabh Pant has inspired many wicketkeepers around the world to play aggressively. He also talked about India’s chances for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023, saying that the Rohit Sharma-led side are well stocked.

The ICC World Cup 2023 is around the corner. The tournament will begin from 5th October in India and the hosts will be strong favorites to win. However, they will be without their star keeper-batter Rishabh Pant. The southpaw met with a tragic accident in December 2022 and since then has been out of action.

The absence of Rishabh Pant might well be a turning factor for India. The keeper-batter has won India many crucial matches in tough situations. His ability to take attack to bowlers even under high-pressure situations sets him apart which is what the Men in Blue might miss in the World Cup.

Adam Gilchrist feels that Rishabh Pant has changed the dynamics of the game with the way he bats and it’s fascinating to see him make such a high impact. Speaking to PTI, he explained:

“I think Rishabh has inspired a lot of wicket-keeper batters around the world to play that way (he does). It is fascinating for such a young man to have such an impact that Rishabh has had and others are responding and playing in that positive manner.”

Rishabh Pant is currently toiling hard at the NCA as he is on the road to recovery after the tragic accident he faced in December 2022. He has been out of the action since then and there have been reports that he will be back in action during the 2024 Test series against England. He also has resumed batting and wicketkeeping in the nets.

Adam Gilchrist further talked about India’s keeper batters. He was delighted to see Ishan Kishan taking his opportunities in the absence of KL Rahul. He explained:

“They (India) are well stocked. They have got a couple of options there, obviously when KL was out with his injury, Ishan Kishan took his opportunity and played really well and now they find themselves in the team together so that’s a wonderful case of taking an opportunity.”

Adam Gilchrist further talked about how both Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul have forced the team management to play them in the XI. He lauded the southpaw for his carefree and attacking cricket. He added:

“Being positive and then and forcing the selectors into keeping you in the team so it seems like KL is gonna be the one who is going to continue with the gloves but it does not seem to hinder Ishan Kishan’s batting, he seems to be playing really well, carefree, attacking and dangerous.”

Adam Gilchrist also talked about the semi-finalists for the ICC World Cup 2023. He picked India, Pakistan, England, and Australia as the top four teams for the event. He added:

“I think India and Pakistan could feature in the semi-finals, Australia and England are another two teams.”

India recently won the Asia Cup 2023. They will now be seen in action when they will take on Australia in the three-match ODI series. The first game will be played on 22nd September.
