IND vs AUS: "We'll Leave That To The Selectors, But He's Looking Pretty Good"- Alex Carey On Cameron Green's Selection For The 2nd Test

Prior to the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test, Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey provided insight on all-rounder Cameron Green’s injury rehab. The visitors suffered a crushing loss in the first game of the series in Nagpur within three days because they were missing the youngster’s all-around skills.
Cameron Green was questionable for the first Test but would have only played as a hitter had he made the starting lineup. During the home series vs South Africa, which Australia ultimately won 3-0, he suffered a finger fracture.

Cameron Green Looking Pretty Good: Alex Carey
Without a pace-bowling all-rounder in their playing XI, Australia struggled to maintain balance when they added an additional batter.
Carey informed Cricket.com.au that Green is doing well in the nets and may soon return to the field:
“He’s looking pretty good. I’m not 100 per cent sure (how is progressing) – he’s a fantastic allrounder for the country. It will be nice to see him back soon. How much do you push it, we’ll leave that to the selectors, but he’s looking pretty good.”

Before the team travelled to Delhi for the second Test, reports state that the all-rounder practised separately from the team in Nagpur. He utilised softball during fielding practise, showing that he is still not fully fit, despite the fact that he batted and bowled with all of his intensity in the practise nets.
Carey expressed his belief in the group’s capacity to win the series back.
“It is the first Test of four and we’re still very positive amongst ourselves that we’ll be able to bounce back in Delhi and get this series back on level (terms) and continue to believe in what we’ve done over the past 12 to 18 months.”
Carey continued:
“I think we’re a really strong Test team. We’ve got all bases covered. Unfortunately it didn’t go to plan this first Test, but we’re definitely reinforcing the messages we’ve had leading into the tour.”
In the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, Australia has only lost one test before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Their inability to score more than 268 runs across two innings in the series opener was evidence of their difficulties against spin bowling.
You Can Fall Into Over-Playing Conditions And Certain Names – Alex Carey
Australia came under fire for spending too much time researching a surface that played safer than anticipated. Additionally, they were unable to stave off the threat offered by Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, who, unsurprisingly, ended up taking the most of the wickets in the first Test.
Prior to the following game, Alex Carey discussed what needed to change:
“You can fall into over-playing conditions and certain names. What you see before you go out to bat as well can change your method a bit. “For myself today (at training) I went back to batting more than anything else and reacting to what’s being bowled down at me and trusting that method.”
Carey continued:
“Maybe (I was) a little bit too keen to play a different style, but in my first Test over here that’s not a bad learning to have.Hopefully, I can find that balance – along with all our players as well. We obviously want to be proactive, but calm and patient (as well), and we had a pretty good look at that first-hand with a few of their players.”
Carey attempted to play the reverse sweep but lost his wicket to Ashwin in both innings. He scored 10 runs in the second essay after scoring a counterattacking 36 runs off 33 deliveries in the first innings.
On February 17, the second Test between India and Australia will start at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
