IND vs BAN: Bangladesh Test squad for India series announced; Najmul Hossain Shanto to captain

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against India later this month. Najmul Hossain Shanto, who led the Bangladesh team to a historic win on the Pakistan tour, will continue to lead the national cricket team during the Test series.

Bangladesh will take on the Rohit Sharma-led team in the two-match series, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. The first Test will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, starting on September 19. Kanpur will host the second and final Test match.

Najmul Hossain Shanto To Lead Bangladesh In India

The Bangladesh Cricket Board took to their official account on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Thursday, September 12, to announce the squad for the Test matches against India.

Bangladesh has made one change to their squad for the Pakistan tour. Wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik has replaced injured pacer Shoriful Islam in the squad. Shoriful is still recovering from a groin injury sustained in the first Test against Pakistan and will miss the upcoming series against India.

Jaker Ali has been selected for the World Test Championship series following his impressive century for Bangladesh A against Pakistan A. The 26-year-old is yet to make his Test debut for Bangladesh. However, he has played 17 T20Is, including four matches in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Shakib Al Hasan To Lead Spin Bowling Attack In Test Series

Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Taijul Islam will be the spinners in the squad. Nayeem Hasan has also been included for an extra spin option given the conditions. Bangladesh's pace attack includes Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, and Khaled Ahmed.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shadman Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, and Zakir Hasan struggled to score runs during the Pakistan series. The middle order features experienced players like Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Rohit Sharma To Lead Team India In Upcoming Series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already named their squad for the first Test match of the series. The Rohit Sharma-led India team leads the World Test Championship 2023-25 standings, while Bangladesh has moved up to fourth place following their victories in Pakistan.
