India's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is recovering well from a thumb injury sustained during the recent All India Buchi Babu Invitational tournament.

According to the latest news reports, Suryakumar Yadav is expected to return for the upcoming rounds of the Duleep Trophy 2024 season.

Surya missed India C's first-round game against India D in the Duleep Trophy. The middle-order batter suffered the injury while playing against TNCA XI in the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament.

He didn't bat in the second innings and was ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy.

The Mumbai cricketer is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Suryakumar will be hoping to return for the upcoming stages of the Duleep Trophy.

He was recently seen interacting with teammates from India A and India B during their game in Bengaluru.

Suryakumar Yadav Is Almost 100 Percent Fit - BCCI Source

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is currently monitoring Suryakumar Yadav's recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The BCCI and Suryakumar are happy with the batter's progress. The Hindustan Times reported that Yadav is almost at full fitness.

"Surya's recovery is going well. He is almost 100 percent and he knows it," said a BCCI source who met Surya on the sidelines of the Duleep Trophy match between India A and India B at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Suryakumar Yadav To Play In Upcoming Rounds Of Duleep Trophy 2024

Suryakumar hopes to play in the Duleep Trophy, but it's uncertain if he will be included in the second round starting on September 12.

The BCCI is likely to make changes to the Duleep Trophy squads, as many players will join a preparatory camp for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

The preparatory camp for the Indian Test squad begins on September 12. All Test players, except for Sarfaraz Khan, will attend the camp.

The first Test match will be played in Chennai starting September 12, followed by the second Test match at the Green Park in Kanpur, starting on September 27.

Suryakumar Yadav To Lead Team India In Bangladesh Series

If Suryakumar Yadav features in India C's upcoming match against India B, it will be his first red-ball game in over 14 months. He last played red-ball cricket in the Duleep Trophy last year.

Notably, the middle-order batter has struggled to establish himself in formats other than T20 Internationals.

There are no doubts about Suryakumar's availability for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh next month.

The cricketer recently began his full-time T20I captaincy during the Sri Lanka tour, where the Men in Blue secured a 3-0 series win in the shorter format of the game.
