India National Cricket Team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal didn't have a great practice session on Monday (16th September) ahead of the first Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. The opening game of the series between the teams will kick start on 19th September in Chennai.
After a day off on Sunday, the India National Cricket Team had an intense practice session on Monday (16th September). The batters had a tough day with the bat as they were against the mighty Jasprit Bumrah, who was at his full flow in the practice session ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh.
One player who was at the receiving end of Jasprit Bumrah's masterclass was youngster Jaiswal. As per the reports in PTI and Indian Express, it is learned that Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled to get going against the premier pacer, who repeatedly made mockery of the opening batter.
Jasprit Bumrah sent Jaiswal's off-stump cartwheeling in the net session. Not only this but the young batter was repeatedly beaten on both edges by the fast bowler. And as it happened, Virat Kohli, who was in the side nets, was watching it and then pulled the youngster out for a small chat.
Virat Kohli was seen showing Yashasvi Jaiswal how to shoulder arms, leaving the balls on length. They were engaged in a small conversation, and after that, the young batter took his guard again, but nothing changed as he yet again struggled against Jasprit Bumrah, who showed no mercy.
Gautam Gambhir takes Yashasvi Jaiswal to the net area and makes him face-thrown downs
Watching Jaiswal struggle against the fast bowler, head coach Gautam Gambhir stepped in and was seen having a conversation with a young batter. The opening batter then was taken by the coach to the net area, where he faced thrown downs with all his focus on getting behind the line of the ball.
Jaiswal repeatedly not only struggled against Jasprit Bumrah but Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, and net bowler Yudhvir Singh tested him repeatedly. Akash, in particular, troubled the young batter with the delivery that was moving out. This, in turn, made Gautam Gambhir step in and have a separate session with the youngster.
Yashasvi Jaiswal struggling against pacers in the net session ahead of the Test series against Bangladesh will be a major concern for the team. With the opposition having quality pacers in their ranks, it no doubt would be a tough challenge for the young opening batter.
The expectations surely would be high from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who set the stage on fire in India's last Test series against the England National Cricket Team. The batter looked a class apart as he racked up 712 runs, which included two double hundred as well.
Jaiswal would be hoping to create a similar kind of impact in the upcoming series. He will have a couple of days to rectify his errors before the first game gets underway at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
