Former South Africa batter and captain Ab De Villiers was in a mood to troll the English team under the captaincy of Ben Stokes who got all out for 246 on day 1 of the 1st Test against India in Hyderabad. When the hosts walked out to bat, youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal took the charge, scoring 76 off just 71, and fans were left confused as to which team was playing the Bazball way.
Rohit Sharma’s men closed day 1 for 119/1 and were trailing by 127 runs. It was a day that was fully dominated by the home team while the visitors only had momentary grips on the match. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley kicked off the proceedings very well and it seemed like England’s decision to bat first was right.
Duckett and Crawley were able to maintain a run rate of over 4 and scored the first 50 runs in a matter of time. However, it wasn’t until that time when the Indian pace battery was going hard at them and as soon as the spinners were introduced in the fray, the visiting batters started to fall under pressure.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja scalped the first 3 wickets with the former removing Duckett and Crawley while Jadeja removed Ollie Pope. Then England saw a short partnership stitched between Johnny Bairstow and Joe Root but it wasn’t long until Axar Patel got the breakthrough wicket of Bairstow and Jadeja got Root out while playing the sweep shot.
Skipper Ben Stokes was the only notable performer who scored a 70 off 88 and well and truly displayed the real face of Bazball before becoming Bumrah’s 2nd wicket and England’s closing wicket. Then it was the turn of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal to ensure keeping the pressure very much on the visitors.
Yashasvi Jaiswal started scoring runs right from the first ball and left the English bowlers clueless with his shot selection and ability to score boundaries against well-pitched deliveries. Rohit Sharma while trying to match the intensity of Yashasvi Jaiswal, unfortunately, got out for 24 off 27 but the latter remained unfazed and kept the scoreboard ticking until stumps.
“You Don’t Have To Call It Bold Or Bazz” Ab De Villiers On Seeing Yashasvi Jaiswal Go All Guns Blazing
Ab De Villiers who was very vocal about his cricketing opinions, could not hold himself back from taking a dig at the English team, stating that what should be India’s batting style called? Bold, Brave, or Bazz? Instead, Ab De Villiers asked to not give it a name but called Yashasvi Jaiswal’s blistering knock as playing to the situation. In true terms, Ab De Villiers trolled England.
“India batting at 8/9 rpo at the start of their innings here. You don’t have to call it brave, bold or bazz ball, it’s literally just playing the situation. Identifying moments in a Test match where u can get ahead in the game is what it’s all about. When the momentum shifts, u adapt and absorb for a period and wait for that moment again.” – AB De Villiers tweeted.
