Not many were expecting Dhruv Jurel to earn a call-up to the Test side ahead of Ishan Kishan, and it appears that even he was surprised by the announcement. Opening up about his initial reaction upon learning about the Test call-up, the Uttar Pradesh youngster mentioned that he was sleeping when the team was announced, and the persistent buzzing of his phone woke him up.
After checking the messages, he went straight to his parents’ room to inform them about the call-up. Jurel further revealed that his parents were emotional and his mother even started crying. He also expressed his excitement over sharing the dressing room with the likes of Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.
“I almost fell asleep when the BCCI announced the team. My phone suddenly started buzzing. I checked the messages first. It was regarding my call-up. I went into my parents’ room and told them this big news. My mother hugged me. My father blessed me,” said Dhruv Jurel.
“They were so happy about this. My parents were so emotional, especially my mother. She started crying. I come from a middle-class family and this is like a dream come true. I am really happy and excited to go and play this big series and that too with the icons like Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli whom I have seen growing up,” he added.
The five-match Test series is scheduled to begin on January 25. The first game will take place in Hyderabad.
