The first match of the five-match Test series between India and England kickstarted on Thursday (25th January). The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad is hosting the game and the first day of the match was nothing short of exceptional.

England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first. They were off to a magical start with the bat, thanks to Zack Crawley (20) and Ben Duckett (35). The duo played aggressively right from the start and made sure that they set the platform for the other batters.

The openers added 55 runs for the opening partnership before Ravichandran Ashwin drew the first blood for his team with the wicket of Ben Duckett. This paved the way for a mini collapse as England were reduced to 60/3. But thanks to Joe Root (29) and Jonny Bairstow (37), England got out of trouble and got some crucial runs.

After the duo got out, it was skipper Ben Stokes who took charge and made sure that he took to the fighting total. The all-rounder slammed a magnificent half-century and put Indian bowlers under pressure. He ended with an innings of 70 runs off 88 balls.

Ben Stokes was well supported by Rehan Ahmed (13), Tom Hartley (23) and Mark Wood (11). The lower order played vital hands in the end and also hit some lusty blows in the end that made sure England posted something around 250. They ended with a total of 246 runs on the board.

For India, Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 3/68. Ravindra Jadeja also bagged three wickets and gave away 88 runs. Apart from them, Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel bagged two wickets each that helped India bundle out the opposition inside three sessions .

India came out all guns blazing in their first innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal took an attack to the England spinners and put them under tremendous pressure. He made sure he didn’t the bowlers settle at all and slammed them all over the park, hitting sixes and fours for fun.

Skipper Rohit Sharma looked good as well and played some crisp shots. However, he couldn’t carry on the start he got. The captain perished to Jack Leach as he attempted to hit him out of the park. The batter got out for just 24 runs off 25 balls.

After he got out, Shubman Gill walked out to bat at No.3. The batter took his time and eased into the innings slowly. But the hero of the day for India is Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hander brought up his half-century quickly and made sure that India got off to a brutal start.
