The veteran India National Cricket Team off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has lavished praise on the 21-year-old left-handed batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal for his aggressive batting approach in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against West Indies National Cricket Team.

Jaiswal made his Test and T20I debut on the West Indies tour. He smashed a spectacular century on his Test debut and followed it up with scores of 57 and 38 in his next two innings.

However, his T20I debut was a forgettable one as the batter got out for 1. Jaiswal bounced back strong in his next T20I, smashing a match-winning 84* but failed again in the series-deciding clash as he scored just 5 runs.

In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, Ashwin lauded Jaiswal for his intent in his debut T20I series.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal got three T20Is in this series. He didn’t play that well in his first T20I. But see, he never died wondering, even in that game. His approach made us wonder if this is going to be the future of T20I batting. He went for the shots from the very first over and was like, ‘I am never going to die wondering.'”

We can see this loss from two perspectives – Ravichandran Ashwin on India’s loss vs West Indies in T20Is

Team India have faced heavy criticism following their 3-2 defeat in the five-match T20I series against West Indies. Ashwin, meanwhile, said that the reaction of fans is understandable.

However, the bowling great believes there were a lot of positives for India in the T20I series like the emergence of Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav’s fearless batting, and Shubman Gill and Jaiswal’s opening combination.

“Obviously, losing the series 3-2 to West Indies… Many of them are criticizing and upset. It’s okay and understandable. It’s only fair, I guess. But we can see this loss from two perspectives. Many players did well for India,” he said.

“The emergence of Tilak Varma as a batter. In fact, in the final T20I, he chipped in with the ball too. Suryakumar Yadav’s continued brilliance in T20 cricket. His fearless batting. The opening combination of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal won us the 4th T20I.”
