IND Vs NED: Shreyas Iyer Reveals The Message Rohit Sharma Sent Through Ishan Kishan When He And Virat Kohli Were Batting vs South Africa
Shreyas Iyer was struggling with his form and there were speculations that he might make way for Ishan Kishan but he has shut his critics after getting back-to-back half-centuries. He scored a terrific 82 against Sri Lanka and a gritty 77 against South Africa on a spin-friendly track, Iyer thanked captain Rohit Sharma and the team management for backing him and giving him the opportunity time and again
Shreyas Iyer said, “Thanks to the management & Rohit – they gave me the clarity during the innings, it helped me a lot”.
Shreyas Iyer came into the crease at a crucial moment when India lost both the openers after a flying start. With Keshav Maharaj introduced into the attack, the ball suddenly started to hold onto the pitch a bit and started spinning. Iyer took his time and got settled, later he mixed aggression and caution to keep the scoreboard moving at a good pace. Iyer’s innings helped Virat Kohli to anchor his innings and post a total of 325 on the board.
Rohit Sharma Backs Shreyas Iyer As India’s First-Choice No.4
Rohit Sharma always backed Shreyas Iyer as his first-choice number 4 batter for India. Even with a patchy start to the World Cup, he showed faith in Iyer ahead of Ishan Kishan. Iyer had the best record for India in ODIs at No.4 and that was the reason Rohit backed him even after a shaky start of the tournament. Shreyas Iyer has shown his caliber after performing in consecutive matches and he will hopefully continue his form in the knockouts.
India has won eight out of eight games in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and is now guaranteed table toppers of the tournament. This means that India will play their Semi-finals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against the team that will secure the fourth spot in the points table. Currently, New Zealand is standing in the fourth position but they can be displaced by the likes of Pakistan if Pakistan is able to beat England with a bigger margin or if New Zealand somehow fail to win their game against Sri Lanka.
Either way, India will face a high-pressure opponent in the Semi-finals. Pakistan is their greatest rivals and New Zealand has a terrific record against the Men In Blues in ICC events. In 2019, the Kiwis clashed with the Men In Blue in the Semi-finals and emerged victorious but this time the Indian team is looking formidable and will give their best in order to win the World Cup.
