Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav hailed his former T20I skipper Virat Kohli for allowing him to play at number three and revealed he is ready to bat at any position. India managed to start the Dravid-Rohit era with a win against New Zealand in the first T20I at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, and it wasn’t the most convincing victory as they stuttered at the end.

Chasing a score of 164, India started off well with the team 50 coming up in the 5th over the mark, and Rohit played a fantastic knock of 48 off 36 balls.

However, once he was dismissed, Suryakumar Yadav took the charge of the batting and scored a fluent 62 off 40 balls. He hit six fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 155 and used his opportunity at number three.

“It Was Really Nice Of Him” – Suryakumar Yadav Lauds Virat

Suryakumar Yadav hailed Virat Kohli for letting him play at number three against Namibia, and it helped the right-hander to be among the runs in the T20 World cup. He added that he was disappointed to miss out on the game against New Zealand in the T20 World cup and noted that he wanted to enjoy any role.

“I was really disappointed when I missed the New Zealand game with back spasms. I wanted to make a mark in the T20 World Cup, so it was nice of him. I still remember when I made my batting debut, he was the one who sacrificed his position and let me go at No. 3 when I played against England, and he batted at 4.

It was the same thing. He asked whether I want to go in so that I get some World Cup game time. It was really nice of him, and I enjoyed coming back not out in that game,” Suryakumar Yadav told in the post-match press conference.

“I Am Happy To Bat Anywhere” – Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav reckoned that he is more used to batting at No.3 for his franchise side but is open to playing any role for the Indian side. He added that he always has wanted to express himself in the last 2-3 years, which has been very effective for him.

“It’s not like I want to bat at any specific position. I am happy to bat anywhere. I have been batting at the No. 3 position for my franchise for the last three years, so it was nothing different for me.

I just go out and express myself, the way I do in the nets. I have followed the same process for the last 2-3 years. I don’t try and do anything different. I just want to go out and enjoy myself,” he added.
