Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers expressed his disappointment over leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s exclusion from India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2023. AB de Villiers highlighted Yuzvendra Chahal’s leg-spin bowling skills would add significant value to the team.

Yuzvendra Chahal was left out of India’s 17-member squad for the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup, which is scheduled to commence on August 30. The right-arm leg spinner’s exclusion hinted that he might not feature in the much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 at home.

“It is a bit of a disappointing drop for me as well. I think Yuzi is always handy with that leg-spinning option. We know how skillful and smart he can be. But the decision has been made and it is what it is,” de Villiers said.

AB de Villiers and Chahal played together for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The duo shared the dressing room between 2014 and 2021 in the cash-rich league.

Not Surprised With Jasprit Bumrah’s Performance – AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers lauded Jasprit Bumrah for winning the Player of the Series award in Ireland despite returning to international cricket from injury.

“Bumrah even won the Man of the Series in Ireland, coming back from injury, which shows you what kind of talent he is. I have heard the coaches say that he has never been away. I am not surprised at all with Bumrah’s performance and it’s exciting to see him in form.”
