Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has responded to a comment made by an England cricket legend regarding the surprising number of empty seats in the stands during India vs Afghanistan game in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. The crowd turnout for this competition has left many people astonished.

While the fans haven’t displayed great enthusiasm for attending matches that don’t involve India, it was widely anticipated that stadiums would be packed when India played. Typically, any match featuring Team India, especially when they play at home, hardly sees any vacant seats. However, the current tournament has proven to be an exception.

There were a significant number of empty seats when India began their World Cup campaign against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8. The situation wasn’t much different when India faced Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, October 11, even though fans started to pour in as the game progressed.

Harbhajan Singh hits back at England legend:

With the stands in Arun Jaitley Stadium not filled at the beginning of the game, former England captain Michael Vaughan decided to take to X (formerly Twitter) to react. The England great asked his followers the reason behind the empty seats, writing: “Why so many empty seats in #Delhi for the India Game.”

And the query did not really go down well with Harbhajan Singh. The World Cup winner decided to hit back at Vaughan, writing: “Are u watching the game or empty seats ??”

Talking about the game, India thrashed Afghanistan by 8 wickets to register their second win in the World Cup. Batting first, Afghanistan finished their innings on 272 for 8 with Jasprit Bumrah picking up 4 wickets for 39 runs in his 10 overs.

In reply, Team India chased down the total in just 35 overs by losing just two wickets. Captain Rohit Sharma starred with the bat, smashing a record 63-ball ton. He scored 131 before being dismissed by Rashid Khan. Virat Kohli also scored a fifty as India crossed the finishing line comfortably. India will be in action next on Saturday (October 14) when they take on Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
