The India national cricket team is disappointed with the variable bounce pitch at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is expected to be available for selection for the upcoming match against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024.

The Men in Blue secured a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Ireland in their first match in New York on Wednesday, June 5. The Indian bowlers restricted Ireland to 96 runs in 16 overs after winning the toss. The Rohit Sharma-led team chased down the target with more than 7 overs to spare in their World Cup opener.

Rohit Sharma Ruled Out Against Pakistan?

Rohit Sharma scored an impressive half-century in challenging conditions for batters. The right-handed batter scored 52 runs off 37 balls with the help of four boundaries and three sixes. However, the Indian skipper had to leave the field after being hit by a short-pitched delivery from Ireland pace bowler Josh Little.

According to a PTI report, Rohit Sharma's injury is not severe, and he is expected to be fully fit for the upcoming match against Pakistan. The Indian cricket team is set to face their arch-rivals, Pakistan, at the same venue on Sunday, June 9.

The report further added that the Indian team is not satisfied with the pitch conditions in New York, particularly due to the variable bounce. However, they don't plan to file any complaints with the ICC. Some bilateral matches were intended to be played on these pitches, but time constraints prevented them.

Jasprit Bumrah Named Player Of The Match For Impressive Bowling Performance

Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Hardik Pandya proved effective in dismantling the Irish batting lineup on a drop-in pitch that offered variable bounce and additional seam movement. Arshdeep took 2 wickets for 35 runs in 4 overs, while Pandya claimed 3 wickets for 27 runs in 4 overs.

Bumrah picked up 2 wickets for just 6 runs in 3 overs. Siraj secured 1 wicket for 13 runs in 3 overs. The Irish batters struggled against the swing, seam, and extra bounce generated by the bowlers. Gareth Delany scored 26 runs off 14 balls, including two fours and two sixes, and took his team close to the 100-run mark.

Veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli, who opened the innings, scored 1 run, and Suryakumar Yadav scored 2 runs. Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 36 runs off 26 balls with the help of three boundaries and two sixes after being promoted to No. 3.
