IND vs SA: "Don't Expect Too Much From Yashasvi Jaiswal"- Gautam Gambhir

Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that Yashasvi Jaiswal shouldn’t be overburdened, considering his first Test tour to South Africa. Gautam Gambhir highlighted the challenges of facing the South African attack in conditions different from subcontinental wickets.
Jaiswal scored 57 runs and 38 runs in his second Test match. He gained valuable experience in South African conditions by playing in the T20I series. After being dismissed for a duck in the second game, he bounced back with a blistering 60 runs in the final T20I.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Will Get Better With This Experience – Gautam Gambhir
In a discussion on Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir acknowledged Jaiswal’s versatile skills on both the front and back foot but cautioned against expecting too much from him, especially when facing formidable bowlers like Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi.
“Extremely different challenge, pace attack, and situations because the West Indies have subcontinental-type wickets. Here, when you will play Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi or Nandre Burger, there will be bounce,” Gambhir told Star Sports.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal has the game, both front and back foot, but it will be a very different challenge. I believe he will get better with this experience. Don’t expect too much, that a young player will come and score a century or a double century in the first match,” he added.
India will face South Africa in the first Test at Centurion, commencing on Tuesday, December 26. Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to open the innings alongside captain Rohit Sharma, while Shubman Gill is anticipated to bat at the No. 3 position for the visiting team.
He Will Become Head Home After Becoming A Better Player – Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir emphasized that players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer would enhance their skills significantly by making substantial contributions to the team in the upcoming Test series in South Africa.
“He might do that (score a century) as well but even if he scores 25-30 runs and gives a start to India, he will head home after becoming a better player, whether it is Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, or Shreyas Iyer,” Gambhir further stated.
“10-15 years ago, we never used to scrutinize the players so much when they used to go on their first tour to South Africa or Australia. If a young player goes to South Africa or Australia for the first time now, he faces as much criticism as he would have faced if he hadn’t scored runs in India.”
India will be without the services of Mohammed Shami, Ishan Kishan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Shami and Ruturaj have been ruled out due to injuries, while Kishan withdrew from the series due to mental fatigue. The visitors will be hoping to register their first-ever red-ball series victory in the Rainbow Nation.
