Former South African cricketer Graeme Smith shared his verdict on the upcoming India vs South Africa clash in the ICC World Cup 2023. He also talked about how Proteas have impressed them beyond expectations in the tournament.
South Africa are going great guns in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. They potentially are one of the best teams in the tournament as they have played a dominating brand of cricket, making a mockery of the opposition.
South Africa are second on the points table with 5 wins out of the 6 games that they have played so far. However, one of the big challenges for them would be the clash against India. The Men in Blue are undefeated in the tournament and have won 6 out of their 6 games in the World Cup. The clash between them would be enthralling to see as both the teams are in red hot form.
The clash between India and South Africa will be played on 5th November at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The clash can potentially be a table-toppers clash as both teams look set to bag the top two spots in the table.
Graeme Smith admitted that South Africa has played well beyond his expectations and their middle order is the best the Proteas have ever had. He also lauded Marco Jansen for his all-round heroics in the tournament. Speaking to ANI, he explained:
“I have to be honest, they (Team South Africa) have exceeded my expectations. I know that there are some quality players in the squad and all those top players have found form in the tournament which has been great to see. Quinton de Kock at the top with bat and then power in the middle order is probably the most destructive middle order South Africa has ever had.
“Marco Jansen at No.7 has been a revelation as an all-rounder in the tournament and hopefully he can continue. He’s a young man and will have his ups and downs but he’s a revelation.”

Graeme Smith further lauded Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj for their exceptional show with the ball. He believes that South Africa has almost sealed its place in the semi-final. He elaborated:
“To see KG and in particular Keshav Maharaj to do well and support players around them for the bowling department has been good. It is pretty much qualified for the semi-final which is terrific. Hopefully, that (India vs South Africa match) will be a top 2 table clash by then.”
South Africa will be next seen in action when they will take on New Zealand on Wednesday (1st November). India on the other hand will take on Sri Lanka on on 2nd November.
