Young Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh delivered a sensational bowling performance in the first ODI of the three-match series against South Africa. Arshdeep Singh bamboozled South African wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen with a brilliant inswinging delivery.

South Africa won the toss and chose to bat in the match in Johannesburg on Sunday. Nandre Burger is playing his first-ever ODI for South Africa, and India’s Sai Sudharsan is also making his debut. Sanju Samson is included in India’s playing XI for the series opener.

Arshdeep Singh Provides An Early Breakthrough For India

In the notable absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, the fast bowling duties in the Indian team have been handed over to Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will share the spin responsibilities.

Arshdeep Singh made an instant impact with the ball in the first game, dismissing Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen in his first over. The batters were dismissed without scoring runs. The left-arm pacer missed the chance to claim his first hat-trick in ODIs.

The 24-year-old also dismissed opener Tony de Zorzi as his third wicket of the day. The South African batter smashed six off Arshdeep on the first ball of the eighth over. The Indian pacer bounced back with tight lines and lengths and dismissed him with a short-pitch ball.

Arshdeep Singh claimed his fourth wicket, knocking over Heinrich Klaasen with an inswinging delivery. The ball skidded on with inward movement and went through the bat-and-gap, disturbing the leg bail. The pacer picked up a four-fer in his first five overs in the game.

The Punjab-born cricketer made his ODI debut for India against New Zealand last year. The pacer failed to pick up any wickets in his first series. He was expensive with the ball in his first assignment. However, he turned it around with a magnificent spell in South Africa.

We’ll Try To Put Pressure On Them – KL Rahul

At the toss, India captain KL Rahul mentioned that they would try to put pressure on South Africa in the spin-friendly and dry conditions. Rahul expressed excitement about players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, and Sanju Samson.

“There was a lot of spin and it was dry, we’ll try to put pressure on them. Sai Sudharsan is on debut today. There are a few names that have played a lot of IPL cricket. Ruturaj did well, Tilak seems exciting, and Sanju is always exciting. We’ve got Axar, Kuldeep who’d love to see some spin,” Rahul said.
