Sri Lanka cricket coach Mickey Arthur mentioned that he has been recognizing the growth of the players in the team and has reckoned they will reap rewards once they become consistent. Sri Lanka lost the three-match ODI series 1-2 to India but they did have a lot of positives from the series to take forward.

Sri Lanka over the years, post the retirement of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene has been finding it very difficult to form a strong core of players from which they can develop a competitive team. However, despite the results not going their way, they look a potent side with the youngsters putting up their hand. A lot will depend on their performance against India in the upcoming three-match T20 international series.

Mickey Arthur Stresses On Creating Depths

Mickey Arthur stated that he has been working on creating depth in all the departments for Sri Lanka along with the consistency part. He mentioned that the team has been assigning roles for various players and also allowing them to express their game. He noted Charith Aasalanka being one of the examples of it and lamented about not being able to put their best batting lineup together.

We are creating depths across all the departments now. We just have to get that little bit of consistency and that same depth into our batting,”

“For numerous reasons we never seem to put our best batting line up out there. It is being about creating depth for me, but also trying to be consistent. Giving guys clear roles but then allowing them to go out and playing with freedom. We saw a really good example of that in Charith (Asalanka) the other night,” Mickey Arthur told in a prematch conference.

Mickey Arthur Confident Of Growth Rewards In The Future

Mickey Arthur was very delighted to see the growth of his players and was critical about confidence and consistency being two major factors that can drive the growth of a player. He was assured that the rewards are there to be taken in the future.

The growth I have seen in these players has been fantastic and the growth comes from giving them confidence and giving them that consistency that they are going to play. We will see the rewards of that in the future for sure,” he added.
