Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has said he is ready to play for Team India in ODIs if the management needs him. Ravichandran Ashwin’s words arrive after Axar Patel was ruled out Asia Cup 2023 due to injury.
Axar Patel, who played a valuable knock against Bangladesh in their previous clash, has been ruled out of Asia Cup 2023. The left-handed batsman faced multiple blows on his wrist for forearms while batting against Bangladesh.
BCCI reported that the all-rounder faced a left quadriceps strain and will not be part of Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka. BCCI named Washington Sundar as his replacement in the squad. However, Sundar’s restriction is limited to only Asia Cup 2023 final.
I Will Be Ready And Will Give My 100 Percent: Ravichandran Ashwin
While speaking on his YouTube channel, right-arm spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said that he is ready to return to ODIs if the management requires his services.
“I have been playing for the last 14-15 years for Team India. I have had my great moments. I have had my fair share of failures too. But I have tattooed Indian cricket close to my heart. If they require my service even tomorrow, I will be ready and will give my 100 percent,” said Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel.
Notably, Axar Patel is also part of ICC World Cup 2023 squad. If he is unable to get fit ahead of the tournament next month, Team India will need a powerful spin all-rounder to replace him.
Washington Sundar is part of the Asian Games 2023. Hence, the right-arm spinner will not be able to be part of ICC World Cup 2023. In such a scenario, Ravichandran Ashwin can be an option to replace Patel. Ashwin is also a spin all-rounder like Axar Patel.
However, Ravichandran Ashwin has not played any ODIs and T20Is since the start of this year. He last played a T20I game in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. His last ODI game was against South Africa in January 2022. Ashwin is a key player when it comes to Tests. However, he is not considered for ODIs and T20Is.
