IND vs SL: Watch - Dunith Wellalage Rattles Rohit Sharma's Stumps, Strikes In Three Consecutive Overs

Sri Lankan spinner Dunith Wellalage dismissed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma to turn the game on its head for the home side. India won the toss and opted to bat first in Colombo. Rohit (53) and Shubman Gill (19) added 80 for the first wicket.

However, with the introduction of Wellalage, the match turned on its head. He first dismissed Shubman Gill in his first over, Virat Kohli in his second over, and Rohit in his third. All three dismissals were different in their own way.

The delivery that dismissed Gill turned while the Indian batter played for the ball coming in. Kohli was puzzled by the turn and the bounce that he generated off the pitch while Rohit was done by the lack of bounce off the delivery. The three deliveries also pointed out the indifferent bounce in the track, unlike Monday.

India went from being 79 for no loss to being 91/3. The left-arm Sri Lankan spinners thus dismissed the Indian top-order to break open the game for Sri Lanka. After the Sri Lankan pacer went for runs, Wellalage came back to stun India.

India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have won one game each in the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2023 so far. The team that win this match will close in on getting into the final of the tournament.

India beat Pakistan in their previous match while Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh in their first Super 4 game. India made one change in their playing XI for this game, including Axar Patel for Shardul Thakur. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, played the same team that defeated Bangladesh in their previous game.

“We are going to have a bat. That’s the challenge you come across as a sportsman, different challenges thrown at you as a player and as a team. We ensured everyone got into the pool after the game last night. They are fresh as we had five days off before these two games. Last game was good for us, we batted well and then came out to defend the total with some good bowling. But again this is a new day and a fresh game. The pitch looks different, looks a lot drier and there’s no grass and hence we bring in Axar for Shardul. It might assist the spinners but we also have three quality pacers,” said Rohit at the toss.
