Steven Taylor couldn't get going after the start that he had and fell to Axar Patel. He looked settled at the crease and with the way he was batting, he looked set for a big knock. But he couldn't as he perished in the 12th over of the innings at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Axar Patel bowled a tossed-up delivery and drifted in with the angle. It was too close for the drive and Taylor got cramped on the shot. He got an under-edge that bounced onto his stumps and the batter had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.
Steven Taylor managed just 24 runs off 30 balls and slammed two sixes in his innings. With his wicket, the United States of America was left tottering at 56/4. But after that vital contributions from Nitish Kumar (27), Corey Anderson (15), Harmeet Singh (10) and Shadley van Schalkwyk (11*) took hosts to a fighting total. They ended with a total of 110 for eight, for India, Arshdeep Singh picked four wickets.
We're disappointed to get this score from where we were - Nitish Kumar
Nitish Kumar admitted that they were 20 runs short and they were disappointed to not get big runs on the board. He also lauded the crowd for the support and while speaking during the mid-innings, he explained:
"I think we're disappointed to get this score from where we were (at one stage of our innings), we are 20 runs short, but we have the runs on the board, the wicket isn't the easiest and we'll look to defend. The crowd is always behind us and it's nice to play in front of them."
In the chase, India came under pressure as they lost Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma (3) and Rishabh Pant (18) early. But Suryakumar Yadav (50*) stood tall for his team and played a magnificent innings. Shivam Dube (31*) supported him well as India chased the target by 7 wickets at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
