You Need To Sign Praises For Mohammed Siraj: Aakash Chopra
While speaking about the Day 4 play on his Youtube channel, former India opener Aakash Chopra hailed Mohammed Siraj for his marvelous bowling show in IND vs WI 2nd Test. Chopra said that we should sing his praises for coming up with such a show on a flat pitch.
“It is a flat pitch and in such a case if Mohammed Siraj comes and picks up five wickets, you need to sing his praises. We saw Siraj’s reign in Trinidad. We saw him becoming the leader of the pack,” Aakash Chopra said.
Aakash Chopra, who played 10 Test for India, also noted that Mohammed Siraj led from the front with two inexperienced bowlers in the team and executed his responsibility.
“One is Jaydev Unadkat, who is playing just his fourth Test and has made a comeback to Test cricket after a very long time. The second is Mukesh Kumar, who is a debutant. You (Siraj) were given the responsibility and you were playing on a surface that did not offer much help,” the former right-handed batsman further added.
According to Aakash Chopra, Mohammed Siraj is a bowler who likes to bowl even if the pitch is not friendly.
“He is a bowler who likes to bowl. You will say everyone likes that – that’s not the case. Whether there is help from the pitch or not and even if he has bowled a long spell, when you look towards him, he says he will bowl. The intent to bowl makes a huge difference,” the 45-year-old concluded.
Mohammed Siraj dismissed Joshua Da Silva, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kemar Roach, and Shannon Gabriel in the match. He crushed West Indies’ lower order to grab a 203-run lead for India after 1st innings.
Mukesh Kumar (2), Ravindra Jadeja (2), and Ravichandran Ashwin (1) picked the rest of the wickets. Earlier, India piled up a gigantic total of 438-10 in 1st innings. Virat Kohli came out with another scintillating Test century in the match.
The Rohit Sharma-led side declared their innings for 181-2 in 2nd innings, setting up a 365-run target for the hosts. Ahead of the final day, West Indies needs 289 more runs to win with 8 wickets in hand.
